INTERSECTIONS #4

CID & Friends

Intersections is a biennale in contemporary design. This fourth edition is the fruit of a collaboration with the CID - centre for innovation and design at Grand-Hornu. By showcasing a selection of its acquisitions from the last five years, CID will be sharing its approach, its challenges and its prized pieces.

How does a designer collection take the culture, economy and technology of its time into account? Based on what do they assemble, stock and reveal the collection?

Whether it is a private collector or a cultural institution, these questions are crucial for every important and coherent collection. The CID - centre for innovation and design at Grand-Hornu keeps on acquiring design pieces since its foundation in 1984. Nowadays, this collection pursues three goals: defining the originality linked to the program of the center, transfer a certain world vision and supporting the production of experimental and unpublished works. Through a selection of the purchased works especially from the last 5 years, the CID will share its methods, its challenges and its favorites. Including works from Aldo Bakker, BIG-GAME, Jean-François D'or, David Dubois, Cheick Diallo, Sofie Lachaert, Jasper Morrison, Office k g d v s, Unfold, Jolan van der Wiel, Sylvian Willenz…
